The Feminine Urge
To those who are waiting for a story and not a poem, next week will be launch day!
there are these longings we get,
longings no boy could ever understand,
longings labeled as childish and odd,
longings that make us feel complete.
it’s the feminine urge, i guess.
to kiss everyone you love on the forehead,
to draw hearts all over your notes
to take as many pictures as possible to remember
exactly how you felt at that moment,
to want to look mysterious while doing homework at a coffee shop,
to try hundreds of different outfits before going out,
to touch every flower you see,
to draw funky shapes on your eyes in eyeliner,
to lean against anyone sitting next to you,
to lie when someone asks if we’re okay,
to cry when someone asks ‘are you sure?’
to simply be in nature,
to make every animal you meet feel loved,
to write a book,
to scroll on Pinterest,
to spend money on room decor,
to use flourished words like ‘serendipity’ and ‘scattered,’
to be unnecessarily mean to boys,
to have stuffed animals in your bed,
to be there for other girls,
to have a reason for feeling so lonely,
to forgive but never forget,
to write until our hands cramp,
to love until our hearts bleed,
it’s simply the feminine urge to feel alive,
an urge no boy could ever understand,
it’s simply our very own urge to strive.
